Cana Joana, Santa Margalida, Mallorca
Some 4km from Santa Margalida and 8 km from the beautiful, dune-backed beaches of Son Serra de Marina, this unique property stands on high ground, amidst extensive almond groves on 10,000 square metres of land. The panoramic views from the first floor sitting room virtually encompass half the island, with stirring vistas of the rugged Tramuntana Mountains to the east and truly majestic sea views to the west over Can Picafort and Alcudia to distant Formentor on the far side of Pollenca Bay.
Leaving the main road and the world behind you, a stone track of some 400 metres passes through a couple of gateways bringing you to the villa, where attractive lawned gardens with flowering shrubs, palm trees and banana trees, border the 8m x 4m pool. To one side of the pool is a covered terrace and from here a door leads into an open plan living room with a breakfast bar separating the well equipped kitchen complete with full cooker with ceramic hob, dishwasher, microwave and large fridge-freezer.
Beyond the kitchen is a very attractive dining area with a handsome dresser, and lovely old-fashioned open fireplace and sofa as well as a smart pine table and chairs. To the rear of the room a staircase leads up to the comfortably furnished sitting room. Here you will find two large sofas, a couple of easy chairs as well as a wood burning stove for cool country nights and numerous windows to make the most of the incredible sea views!
The villa's three well-furnished bedrooms are located on the ground floor, off the corridor to the side of the living area. There are one double and two twin bedrooms, sharing a very smart, full bathroom, plus a separate shower room.
On the far side of the villa is a further covered terrace, accommodating an open-air kitchen with a gas cooker, plus a double sink, washing machine and a huge open fireplace. In the garden nearby is a purpose built barbecue and if you do a little hunting you'll find fresh mint and parsley for marinades!
Other gifts from Mother Nature (pennies from heaven) include oranges and lemons from the grove adjoining the villa as well as the occasional offering from the owner of fresh eggs from his chickens, kept in a small run hidden away amongst prickly pear trees to the side of the entrance gate. There is also a table tennis table usually situated in the shade of the covered terrace next to the pool.
Notes: There is a DVD player and a satellite TV in the sitting room which receives some English channels. In the gardens are two convenient outside showers. The owner's father tends to the chickens and also a flock of sheep that graze from time to time in the adjoining orchards. For a few days in September when the almonds are harvested you may see the occasional farm worker. Finally, if you run out of sugar or have a more serious problem, you might be reassured to know that the owner's sister, Francesca, has a villa on a separate plot of land some 50-100 metres away, but not in a position to encroach on your privacy. The pool has a depth of 1m in the shallow end sloping to 1.85m at the deep end.
The cost of logs and central heating, If required at the beginning or end of the season, is payable locally direct to the owner.
Santa Margalida, Mallorca
Although a mere 7kms from the resort hotels and glorious sandy beaches strung between Alcudia and Can Picafort, the small, gentille town of Santa Margalida, is just far enough removed from the coast to remain off the beaten track as far as tourists are concerned. ...More about Santa Margalida >>
